Shhhhh…. Listen ~

From this morning’s Girlfriends In God ~

Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak (James 1:19)

Jesus had a way of listening that reached down into the very souls of people. He knew how to prime the pumps of their hearts. He knew that what was inside would come pouring out. That same principle is still true.

Sometimes the best encouragement we can offer someone in pain is a listening heart Listening doesn’t require that we fix anything or even that we arrive at a solution. Listening simply sends the message, “I’m here for you. I want to understand your pain. I’m willing to share your pain.”

Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about – unless you are willing to listen. When we listen to people, we validate them. We invite them into our lives and give them the most precious gift we posses – time. Loving your neighbor is not something you feel. It is something you do.It’s the act of sacrificing your own needs and desires for the sake of someone else.

It is time for us to put away our sermons, save our advice, and simply listen to the people God has placed in our lives. Talking is sharing, but listening is caring. It’s time for us to listen up.
There was a time when I thought, because I had learned a few things, that everyone who came to me with a problem needed to hear what I “knew”. (We see through a glass darkly, remember?) I was not good at shutting my trap & just listening. I think, many times, that’s what we need most – an ear & a shoulder – not an opinion or a solution.

The longer I live, the more I realize I definitely do not have it all figured out.I have learned that choosing to not judge people brings so much more peace into my own life. To let people be where they are & love them there. If everyone was just alike this world would be boring place. I also think that when we are busy judging someone we miss the gift that is in that person. We all have a gift. A sweet spot in the middle of all the imperfection. We need each other. We really ought to treat others the way we would want them to treat us ~ The Golden Rule.

We need to drop our gavels & hang up our caps & gowns. And enter back into humility, into the school of true wisdom & not just knowledge.
And the school of how to Love like Jesus.
Most of all.

With that being said ~
Much love y’all, much much much,
