From Unloved To Flying Free

“Most birds were created to fly. Being grounded for them is a limitation within their ability to fly, not the other way around…. You, on the other hand, were created to be loved. So for you to live as if you were unloved is a limitation, not the other way around. Living unloved is like clipping a bird’s wings and removing its ability to fly. If left unresolved for very long, you can almost forget that you were ever created to fly in the first place.” – Wm. Paul Young, The Shack
I lived a large part of my life like I was unloved.
Believing it, even. Like to my core.
Out of that place came a lot of ugly. Very poor decisions, relationships, no real direction but down. And all the while God continued to pursue me. Showing up in ditches & darkness & despair. Over. And over. And over.
Today I find myself in a much different place, thankfully. But in total honesty – sometimes I still struggle. Sometimes I wonder if, in some ways, I am perpetually broken. So broken that no-one BUT God can handle me. And maybe – well probably  – in total Truth, in some ways only He can. And I guess that’s OK.
We aren’t ~ nor were we ever ~ meant to be everything for someone else. Or for ourselves. We aren’t built for it, though we try – oh how we try.
Help us Lord. To receive Your love in greater measure today.
To accept ourselves as we are, because You do. And to be grateful as You gingerly place Your finger on this spot, and that one, and that one. May we lean into Your Potter’s hands & surrender. For only in that place will we ever find true freedom, healing, hope. And restoration.
You are so good to us, in spite of us God.
In Jesus’ Precious & Holy name,
