The Valley & Our Very Present Help

“Valleys are a certainty in this life. The death of a loved one can derail us. The death of a long-held hope can plunge us into a slimy pit of despair and darkness. Dreams that have slowly died or relationships that have abruptly ended can leave us stranded and alone in our own personal valley. While valleys may come in all shapes and sizes, one thing is certain – they will certainly come. So how do we deal with the valleys in life? Faith. Don’t let that word freak you out. You have faith. You walk into a dark room and flip a switch, knowing the light will come on. You sit in a chair knowing it will support your weight. See? You do have faith. It’s just a matter of where you place that faith that makes the difference. When you place your faith in God, a world of possibilities & impossibilities opens up.” ~ Excerpt from Girlfriends In God

I have walked through some really dark, confusing & twisty places – that, just to be perfectly honest, shocked me. See, sometimes I think I have it all together. I mean, c’mon – I have been through some serious stuff right? I could handle anything that came my way, with strength and grace, RIGHT? And then a thing – totally unexpected & out of left field – can come along and just bowl me over, FLAT. And I then I find myself down for the count, just like that. 1-2-3, out. I have been through far worse before, trust me. But yet I lay there, and lay there, and lay there. Might even stay down for a solid month. I snot & ugly-cry, lose my appetite, mope & drag myself around like Eeyore. So angry at ME. Feeling so stupid, wondering how in the hell I let it get so far…

Ever been there?

And my faith is what finally pulls me up & out of that dark valley. It really does y’all. ~ ALWAYS.

God. Is. Faithful.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Whether you are in the valley or on the mountaintop today, keep the faith. It is our friend. He is our friend.

Much love y’all,
